Laker’s owner Jerry Buss recently stated that he would consider trading Kobe Bryant and would certainly listen to trade offers for the NBA superstar.
This past summer, a frustrated Bryant demanded to be traded mostly due to Laker management not making trades to surround him with better players. Bryant indirectly took shots at teammate Andrew Bynum when he criticized Laker management for not trading Bynum for Jason Kidd.
With the recent trades of franchise players Allen Iverson to the Denver Nuggets and Kevin Garnett to the Boston Celtics, trading the face of your franchise is not uncommon these days, and is sometimes looked at as a good business decision.
Bryant is without a doubt the face of the Lakers organization and is loved in Los Angeles, but trading the best player in the league is a very hard thing to do, no matter how frustrated he may be. However, if you decide not to trade Kobe Bryant, Bryant can terminate his seven year deal in two years. This means in two years, Bryant can leave the money on the table and go to another team, and the Lakers would not get any players in return.
