Hardaway Reunites with Shaq August 9, 2007Posted by Marquis Chapman in Basketball, NBA, Sports.
Penny Hardaway recently signed with the Miami Heat, reuniting him with former Orlando Magic teammate Shaquille O’Neal. The duo led the Magic to the 1995 NBA Finals, eventually losing to the Houston Rockets.
It’s been more than a year and half since Hardaway has played in the NBA. Hardaway has been plagued by nagging injuries with his knee, and has bounced around from team to team in recent years.
Although, fans often sum up Hardaway’s career as disappointing, his career numbers are not that bad, considering all the injuries he’s had. In the 13 years he’s played, he has averaged 15.4 points and 5.1 assists per game. Penny was a very talented player in his younger days. He was like a Tracy McGrady with better passing skills. If he hadn’t of gotten injured, he would have definately been one of the greats.
I’m not sure why the Miami Heat would acquire the 36 year old Hardaway, but I have heard through the news that he has been working out extremley hard to get back in playing shape. The Heat however, continue to get older. I’m sure that they could have gotten another young guy in there, nevertheless, I’m glad to see Penny reunited with Shaq. If we’re lucky, we might just see glimpses of the old Penny and Shaq next season. We can only hope to be so lucky.
