It was supposed to be a very special day for the Cincinnati Reds. The weather was perfect at Great American Ball Park, and there was that usual sense of excitement among the fans on every Opening Day.

Cincinnati Mayor Mark Mallory was given the honor to throw the opening pitch and former Cincinnati Reds Outfielder Eric Davis was the catcher.  Mallory proceeded to step to the mound and then..

I love how just flat out bewildered everyone is afterwards. He must have taken lessons from my grandma.

Eric Davis’ reaction was hilarious

Yup. That is, beyond a doubt, the weirdest sideways pitch I ever have seen. I could not throw that pitch if I tried to.

Awful and funny as heck.

THX

I just enjoy the comedy in most folks trying the “Pitch”. However; I can’t believe where this one went….. Crazy !!!

Was that real or was that a prank ? That was the worst I’ve ever seen. It was good to see Eric Davis still kickin. He was one of the best to come out of the South-Central L. A. area. Also a heck of a High School basketball player

Eric Davis, smile, you’re on Candid Camera! Has Mayor Mallory ever picked up a baseball in his life? Even a two year old has better aim. In his defense, Mayor Mallory thought there was someone on first base, LOL. How sad that a grown man can’t pitch a ball 90 feet. A child could do at least half that, IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION. Davis’ reaction was too funny and was a good temporary distraction from this humiliating moment. The fact that there was no reaction from Mayor Mallory was as if he just didn’t care or want to be there and was in a big hurry to get the whole thing over with. Obviously not a baseball fan. I’d like to hear his excuse. Baseball is America’s game and most likely most of American was watching including the city of Cincinnati as their Mayor made a complete you know what of himself. How embarrassing for the city of Cincinnati. Is there a Mayoral election coming up soon? Don’t count on die hard baseball fans voting for him again. That’s how serious fans take the game of baseball. Keep this guy away from the basketball court and the football field. Imagine how funny that could be.

That was pathetic.

How is Eric Davis still in great shape all these years after his last game?

I have no idea. I’ve wondered the same thing. He looks like he can still play and put up some great numbers.
