Pacman Jones Accused of Punching a Woman January 15, 2008

Our good friend Pacman Jones is back in the news.  According to ESPN.com  Pacman has been accused of punching a woman at an Atlanta Strip Club:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A woman is seeking an arrest warrant against suspended Titans cornerback “Adam Pacman” Jones claiming he punched her at an Atlanta strip club.

Fulton County Magistrate Court officals told The Associated Press on Tuesday that Wanda S. Jackson asked for the warrant after a Jan. 3 altercation at the Body Tap Strip Club.

Jackson, an attorney, says she was in the club’s office when an angry Jones accused managers of stealing his money and bracelet.

Jackson said Jones lunged at her numerous times and then “sucker punched” her in the left eye.

Jackson did not immediately return a phone message requesting comment. Jones’ attorney Manny Arora said no warrant has been issued against Jones.

Last month Jones pleaded no contest to a disorderly conduct charge related to a strip club shooting in Las Vegas last February that left one man paralyzed. He agreed to a year of probation, random drug testing, community service and anger management classes.

Jones has been arrested six times since being drafted sixth overall in 2005, including two arrests in Georgia in 2006 that the Titans did not learn about until 2007.

In April, Jones was suspended by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell for the entire 2007 season for his role in inciting the Las Vegas incident.

At the time of his suspension, one of the changes Jones told Goodell he intended to make was to stay out of clubs and to avoid situations in which he might be compromised. Goodell has said that he has apprised Jones that he will ultimately be judged by his actions, not his words.

In mid-December, the NFL rejected an appeal by the players’ union on behalf of Jones to have him reinstated for the final two games of the regular season.

The New York Giants defeated the Dallas Cowboys 21-17 in the divisional playoffs.  Naturally, the fans and the media will point the finger at Tony Romo, but a very emotional Terrell Owens has Romo’s back on this one.

Now Is Time for Tiger to Fulfill Father’s Prophecy January 13, 2008

Here is an interesting article from ESPN.com written by Scoop Jackson. Scoop gives his opinion on how he felt Tiger Woods should have handled the racist remarks made by Golf Channel’s Kelly Tilghman:

In the words of his late father, he was put here to change the world.

“He will transcend this game … and bring to the world … a humanitarianism … which has never been known before. The world will be a better place to live in … by virtue of his existence … and his presence.”

What Earl Woods foretold for his son in that Sports Illustrated article in December 1996, most of us have been privileged to witness. Not just on the golf course, but also in the way Tiger Woods handles life. Not only his, but life in general. He has been, if you look beyond the apparent, the perfect “Cablinasian” of Jordan, Oprah and Obama. Not only in skill, but in character, and in having the almost innate ability to make race — specifically his race — a nonissue. As Greg Garber once wrote on ESPN.com, “In the end, Woods has served as an example of racial harmony simply by being himself.”

Now comes the hard part.

When the Golf Channel’s Kelly Tilghman used the phrase “lynch him in a back alley” to describe how young players on the PGA Tour should overcome Tiger’s dominance, it was the latest in a long line of inconsiderate and inappropriate comments that have been made about people of color (especially African-Americans) in the world of sports.

You read it right. The Saint Louis Billikens were defeated by the George Washington Colonials 20-49.  The Billikens set a Division I record for fewest points in a game. The team had a terrible first half with just 7 points, but picked it up in the second half, scoring 13 points.  Bryce Husak was the leading scorer for Saint Louis with 5 points. George Washington’s leading scorer Damian Hollis, almost outscored the entire Saint Louis team with 13 points.

Billikens head coach Rick Majerus stated, “I thought GW played tough on defense. We had some issues. You have to credit GW for playing very well. We have some issues in terms of our offensive proficiency. I tried to keep coaching the game. Sometimes you miss. We are a team that has some issues. That is why we are practicing [Friday]. We did miss some good shots, yes. Anyone can look at us and see we don’t have height, we don’t have depth.”

Phoenix Suns Forward Grant Hill is expected to miss 2 weeks, due to an emergency appendectomy:

Suns forward Grant Hill’s best run of good health in years took a surprise interruption today when it was learned he would need to undergo an appendectomy this evening.

Suns General Manager Steve Kerr said Hill likely is expected to miss about two weeks of play.

Hill, mired by acute injuries in the past eight years of his career, had started all of Phoenix’s 34 regular season games, his longest run of consecutive games played since he was in Detroit in the 1999-2000 season. Hill is averaging 15.9 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.5 assists and is shooting 50.7 percent from the field.

Hill came to US Airways Center this morning feeling ill and was sent to the hospital by Phoenix head athletic trainer Aaron Nelson because he was not showing any of the usual flulike symptoms. At the hospital, it was determined Hill would undergo an appendectomy.

Not sure what Hinrich could have done to stop this, but Jamal Crawford abused him on this play.  Is it me, or does this type of stuff happen to Kirk Hinrich a lot?

McNabb Wants Playmakers January 9, 2008

On his blog yardbarker.com, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb made it known that he wants some changes made to the Eagles roster next season.  McNabb wants more playmakers on an Eagles team that finished the season with an 8-8 record.

“Now that the season is over and we are concentrating on 2008, I hope we are able to secure some playmakers in all three phases of the game. Maybe some of those playmakers are already on the roster but have struggled with injuries, myself included, that have held us back a little.”

McNabb added, “I’m surprised that anyone would have a problem with me, or anyone else in the organization, expressing a desire to bring in more quality players. We were 8-8. There is room for improvement. This is a competitive sport. It’s about putting together the best players, the best team, and giving yourself the best chance to win.”

I know there are people out there that think McNabb should be traded, but McNabb is right. While he wants playmakers in all three phases of the game, the Eagles definitely need a playmaker at the wide receiver position. Brady has Moss, Manning has Harrison/Wayne, Favre has Driver, Romo has Owens, and even Eli has Burress.  McNabb has… Kevin Curtis.

Having a playmaker at the wide receiver position would definitely take the load off of McNabb and the “do everything” Brian Westbrook. While I admit, McNabb hasn’t looked that great the last couple years, every quarterback should have that guy on the team that can go deep and make plays.

Pictured above is the Nike Air Jordan XX3. This is the 23rd edition of the Nike Air Jordan shoe, which is set to come out this month.  For years, there have been rumors that the 23rd edition of Air Jordans would be the last shoe to be released and the shoe line would be “retired.”  Jordan and Nike have yet to confirm this, but knowing MJ, even if he does retire the shoe line, there is always a good chance that there will be a comeback.
